Fashion Futurist Visits FIDM Library
Sylvia Heisel, Creative Director of 3D print lab Heisel.co in New York, visited FIDM Library today to explain how current technology can move the industry toward sustainability.
Underlining how traditional cut and sew manufacturing creates waste, she pointed to Adidas as the first mass market company to adapt the new 3D technology for their Future Craft footwear line. “The technology is there for apparel, but the design is not,” said Heisel, challenging FIDM Students to bring beautiful design to the new technology. Heisel’s visit coincides with the latest Innovative Materials Exhibition curated by Kristine Upesleja, where students can touch textiles made from bark cloth, salmon skin, and recycled cassette tape.
